More Sears and Kmart stores are set to close in the next couple of months.

The going-out-of-business liquidation sales at 51 Sears and 45 Kmart stores – first announced in November by parent company Transformco – are expected to wrap up by mid-February, company spokesman Larry Costello confirmed Jan. 31.

But USA TODAY has found liquidation sales slated to continue into March and April at dozens of stores throughout the nation.

Costello said Thursday that the company declined to comment and did not confirm the accuracy of the list USA TODAY compiled using local media reports, job postings for positions at closing stores and state layoff notices.

In early November, Transformco, which acquired Sears and Kmart out of bankruptcy in February 2019, said after 96 stores closed in February that the company would operate 182 stores.

“We will continue to evaluate our Sears and Kmart footprint, consistent with our overall retail and service strategy,” Transformco said in a November statement.
