For 16 years, Starbucks’ Pumpkin Spice Latte has reigned supreme, but this season there’s a new coffee drink spicing things up.
Fall is arriving earlier than ever at Starbucks.
The coffee giant’s Pumpkin Spice Latte – the drink that started the pumpkin craze 17 years ago – returns Tuesday along with the seasonal menu and a new hotline to “fall into the season no matter the weather or where you are.”
For a limited time, fall enthusiasts can call the Starbucks hotline – at 1-833-GET-FALL – “to hear a variety of prompts that will transport them to their favorite season, including a crackling fire, a hayride through a pumpkin patch or even some PSL-inspired meditations,” the company said Tuesday.
The Pumpkin Cream Cold Brew, which debuted last year, is also back, along with a pumpkin bakery assortment, including the Pumpkin Cream Cheese Muffin and Pumpkin Scone. Pumpkin Bread is available year-round.
Starbucks officials confirmed in late July that they planned to bring back the Pumpkin Spice Latte, known as PSL for short, which is considered the company’s most popular seasonal beverage with more than 424 million sold in the U.S since 2003.
The Seattle-based company also announced Tuesday that the Starbucks Rewards loyalty program will be updated starting Sept. 15 to give more ways to pay and earn stars toward free drinks, food and other items.
With the change, which was announced in July, new and existing Starbucks Rewards members will be able to earn stars with credit or debit cards, cash or mobile payments. Currently, the only way to earn stars is when paying with a Starbucks Card.
Last year, Starbucks’ fall menu, which also includes the Salted Caramel Mocha and Salted Caramel Mocha Frappuccino, returned Aug. 27.
The coffee giant is not the first to pick up the pumpkin mantle this year. Dunkin’ kicked off the season when its pumpkin menu returned Aug. 19.
7-Eleven plans to start serving its Pumpkin Spice Latte and brewed pumpkin-flavored coffee as soon as Sept. 2, the convenience store chain said in a news release.
